Patients who have carotid artery blockage below 50%, however, are not good candidates for the rechanneling of the artery. The benefit for such patients is much lower and does not fully warrant the use of the procedure with all the risks involved. Thus, the procedure is reserved mostly for high-risk individuals.
While the procedure is being performed, the patient is asked to lie on his side on the operating table, making sure to expose the side where the blocked carotid artery is located. The procedure begins with the surgeon making a large cut or incision on the neck, just over the said artery. He then inserts a flexible catheter into the artery, allowing blood to flow through it and around the blockage. With blood flow diverted, the surgeon can start rechanneling the artery to restore normal blood flow to the brain. All throughout the procedure, the patient’s cardiovascular activities are closely monitored.
After the procedure, the surgeon closes the incision. The whole procedure may take about 2 hours. It is then followed by some tests to confirm whether blood flow to the brain is normal. Patients are also placed under close monitoring for a few hours, possibly overnight if the procedure is done later in the day, to check for signs of bleeding, stroke, or poor blood flow. However, if the procedure is done earlier in the day, the patient may be able to go home the same day.
The following are symptoms associated with nerve injury:

Overview of Rechanneling of Artery
Rechanneling of Artery is a type of surgical procedure where the blood vessels are rearranged to change the direction of blood flow. It is done primarily with the aim of reducing the risk of stroke or other cardiovascular conditions. This procedure is also known as transluminal angioplasty.
The rechanneling of artery procedure is typically performed on patients who have narrowed or blocked arteries or veins that are causing them health problems. During the procedure, a balloon-tipped catheter is inserted into the artery and the balloon is inflated. This creates a space for the vascular surgeon to reposition the artery. Then, the artery is adjusted so that the blood flow is directed in the desired direction.
Benefits of Rechanneling of Artery
The main benefit of rechanneling of artery is that it reduces the risk of strokes and other cardiovascular conditions. By redirecting the blood flow to the right direction, the risk of clot formation is reduced. Furthermore, the rechanneling of artery also helps to restore normal blood circulation in the area, reducing the risk of blockages, heart attacks, and other cardiovascular diseases.
Moreover, rechanneling of artery also helps to improve the performance of medical interventions in the arterial system. This includes coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), balloon angioplasty, stent placement, and other vascular treatments. Rechanneling of artery helps to improve the results of these medical treatments by increasing the success rate of treatments and ensuring their long-term effectiveness.
Expected Results After Rechanneling of Artery
The results achieved from rechanneling of artery vary from patient to patient depending upon their condition and other associated risk factors. Usually, patients experience improved blood circulation, a decreased risk of heart attack or stroke and enhanced cardiovascular health. In addition, patients also generally have improved quality of life.
Other Benefits of Rechanneling of Artery
In addition to the aforementioned benefits, rechanneling of artery also offers a wide range of other advantages. These include:
- It can reduce the risk of other cardiovascular diseases, such as aortic aneurysms.
- It can be used to treat carotid artery disease, which is a condition that causes narrowing of the arteries in the neck.
- It can be used to treat peripheral artery disease, which affects the arteries in the extremities.
- It can be used to treat renal artery disease, which affects the arteries that supply blood to the kidneys.
- It can be used to treat aneurysms, which are bulging areas in the wall of an artery.
- It can be used to treat venous disorders, such as varicose veins.
- It can be used to treat arterial blockages, which can lead to stroke or heart attack.
- It can reduce the risk of pulmonary embolism, a potentially fatal condition caused by a blood clot in the lungs.
Complications of Rechanneling of Artery
Rechanneling of artery is a relatively safe procedure, but like any other medical intervention, it carries the risk of some complications. Common complication of rechanneling of artery surgery include:
- Infection at the site of incision
- Pain, swelling and bruising at the site of incision
- Saignement
- Reaction to anesthesia
- Formation of blood clots in the artery
- Damage to nearby veins or nerves
- Tissue death at the site of incision
It is important to discuss with your doctor regarding the possible risks and complications of rechanneling of artery before undergoing the procedure.
Conclusion
Rechanneling of Artery is a type of procedure that allows the direction of blood flow to be redirected in order to reduce the risk of stroke or other cardiovascular events. This procedure is typically recommended for patients who have blocked or narrowed arteries or veins. The procedure has a wide range of benefits, including improved blood circulation, reducing the risk of heart attack or stroke and enhanced overall cardiovascular health. However, there are also some possible complications associated with the procedure. Therefore, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider if you’re considering undergoing rechanneling of artery.
